Why I'm running the race
Thanks for taking a few minutes to visit my page and see what this is all about. Eight months ago we got a call that my borther Andy had been diagnosed with a brain tumor and it was to be removed the following morning. His surgery was as successful as it could have been and he and his wife Liz returned to the states from Russia, their home of almost 20 years.
He has undergone Radiation and is now in the second half of his chemotherapy treatment and doing amazingly well thanks to some of the research on Glioblastoma. We cannot begin to express our gratitude as a family for his medical care, for those who have prayed and walked with him, his wife Liz and their girls on this journey. We are in awe of God's blessing of these days and the depth of life Andy has enjoyed in spite of grim statistics. You can read more about Andy's journey here - http://bit.ly/2uycd6Y
We are gathering as an extended family to run in honor of Andy and in memory of my cousin's sister Susie Witty. Susie only survived a matter of weeks after her diagnosis, but the impact of the years she lived will continue for generations. We are joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure St. Louis on July 22, 2017. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Head for the Cure works to inspire hope for the community of brain cancer patients, their families, friends, caregivers and other supporters, while celebrating their courage, spirit and energy. Every Head for the Cure event marks a day of celebration where those diagnosed with brain cancer are honored and celebrated by their friends and families, those who have lost their battles are remembered, and we are all inspired to carry on the fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Please consider making a donation today to help me reach my goal and to help Head for the Cure defeat brain cancer, step by step!
