Running for Elise
As many of you know, Elise Strickland was one of my closest friends. Her diagnosis with a glioblastoma seemed unreal and unfair. But when faced with the challenge, she decided to fight as hard as she could not only to try and beat this horrible disease but to help others by furthering research into possible treatments and cures.
I am confident that even though she isn't here to race with us, her impact in tangible in that she contrinuted to research that is going to have an impact on all those faced with this terrible disease in the future. She did her part to make a change, and now it is my time to continue her efforts through fundraising and awareness.
I am joining the fight against brain cancer by participating in Head for the Cure Central Texas on March 25, 2018. Head for the Cure is dedicated to raising funds and awareness for brain cancer research.
Each year, over 200,000 people in the United States are diagnosed with a primary or metastatic brain tumor. More than 120 types of brain tumors exist, making effective treatment complicated. Cutting edge research is needed as we continue to make strides in this fight.
Funds raised by Head for the Cure support the Brain Tumor Trials Collaborative, a network of medical centers like Duke, where Elise received treatment, with the expertise and the desire to participate in state-of-the-art clinical trials investigating new treatments for malignant brain tumors.
Please consider making a donation today in memory of Elise and in honor of her strength and courage during her cancer battle.
